You know you are going to have great fishing at fishing resorts in Ontario. That said, you are not going to be able to spend 24 hours catching fish for all those days of your vacation. What else can you do at fishing resorts, where the nightlife may consist of watching fireflies blink or where there’s limited shopping opportunity? Here are the top 5 things we see people do up here when they don’t have a fishing pole in their hands.
1. Talk around the campfire.
- Make some s’mores.
- Unplug and reconnect as a family just by talking without distractions.
- Look up at the sky and enjoy the clear, star-filled Canadian skies and keep an eye on the north skies for a chance to spot the Northern Lights.
- Do a round robin dream survey and find out what things are important to each other.
2 . Invite other guests to dinner.
- Pick some other lodge guests you find pleasant.
- Invite them to have dinner with your party.
- Suggest you all pool resources and have a better meal than you otherwise would have had.
- Swap adventure stories.
- Share stories about your other interests.
- Make new friends.
- Your children can meet their children.
3. Go on a wildlife safari on one day.
- See how many different animals you and other members of your family or party can discover.
- Take pictures.
- Later, see how many you can identify.
- Then see what you can learn about how they live.
4. Have a Shore lunch
Bring some cooking supplies and beans and potatoes with you out in the boat. Catch a nice meal of walleyes and pick a nice open, scenic area to have a shore lunch. Build a fire and fillet up your catch and you are in for a real treat. Nothing beats cooking walleye you just caught over an open fire!
5. Play a card or board game together.
- This is more time to just connect some more.
- No one plays in silence.
- Unplugged time together is quality time.
- Make the most of it.
